Full Transcript

In today’s video, there are lots of occurrencies of the imperfect past tense. Can you find them? I’ve added a conjugation table at the bottom to help you.

Uma coisa é que eu gosto muito de estudar idiomas, sempre gostei. E.. eu tenho objetivo durante a minha vida de aprender o máximo possível em um nível ideal, porque muitas vezes você falar, você dizer que fala um idioma é uma coisa, mas você falar mesmo na prática é outro, porque o conceito de fluência é uma coisa às vezes muito abstrata, né? Depende do que você considera fluência. Mas, enfim.

Basicamente, até o momento eu falo português, que é a minha língua materna. Mas, eu falo inglês, espanhol, francês. Eu estava aprendendo alemão, mas tive que deixar um pouco em off agora. E estou aprendendo a Língua Brasileira de Sinais também, Libras, que é a língua que os surdos usam pra se comunicar.

Bom, a primeira língua que eu aprendi foi o inglês e eu não sei muito bem explicar como foi, porque nós temos inglês aqui nas escolas no Brasil, porém, apesar disso, pouquíssimos brasileiros falam inglês fluentemente e fui aprendendo muito durante a minha vida. Meu pai estudava quando eu era criança e isso despertou interesse pra mim, em mim, porque ele sempre foi uma referência pra mim e eu aprendi bastante jogando principalmente, ouvindo música e acho que foi isso. Mas, e aí chegou um momento em que eu percebi que eu já conseguia me comunicar bastante. É… inclusive chegou um momento em que eu comecei a dar aulas de inglês.

O espanhol é aquela língua que todo brasileiro acha que sabe, mas não sabe. Porque é uma língua muito parecida com o português e isso muitas vezes é um problema até, porque todo mundo aqui fala uma coisa chamada portunhol, que é um espanhol misturado com português, mas acaba não sendo nem um nem outro e aí eu decidi aprender espanhol, na verdade, é… porque foi uma coisa que foi se tornando necessária na minha vida, por conta de alguns projetos paralelos que eu tenho. Foi bem legal, é… acho que ainda utilizo bastante, depois do inglês é o idioma que eu mais utilizo e… também foi rápido pra eu avançar o meu nível de espanhol e eu consigo entender tudo, às vezes, quando eu falo eu cometo alguns pequenos erros, mas eu consigo entender tudo, então eu considero, me considero fluente em espanhol. 

Também tem o francês né…

Você não falou a parte mais importante de como você aprendeu espanhol… 

É que você aprendeu assistindo naruto

Ah é, eu aprendi assistindo naruto. Assistam naruto em espanhol é maravilhoso.

O francês eu aprendi, porque eu sempre achei muito bonito e eu tava meio sem ideia. Eu quero aprender um idioma ok, vamos lá, qual será que eu posso aprender? Ah, francês. Eu decidi aprender francês. Uma coisa muito interessante é que eu tentei fazer um curso de francês. E o curso de francês ele me ajudou a sair do nível básico, mas eu particularmente não sentia necessidade de continuar no curso de francês, porque as outras coisas eu fui aprendendo praticamente tudo por pesquisa, vendo vídeo, entendeu? E… o curso me dava uma noção muito quadrada, uma noção muito limitada do que era o idioma e suas aplicações, então eu acho que foi útil, mas eu posso dizer que foi útil até um certo ponto. Depois eu continuei estudando por conta própria, eu consigo falar. Meu sotaque não é perfeito, eu consigo entender bastante. Eu gosto muito e eu pretendo continuar aprendendo e me aprofundando quando eu tiver oportunidade. Mas no momento não é uma prioridade pra mim.

O alemão, eu decidi aprender o alemão, porque eu também acho muito bonito. E acho muito legal. Nossa, acho maravilhoso. E também porque eu tinha muita curiosidade. 

Só um momento, eu posso falar que eu tenho um namorado?

Então, meu namorado fala alemão muito bem. Aí eu sempre ficava curiosíssima vendo ele aprender, ele falando. Ficava assim “gente, eu quero entender isso, eu quero entender isso”. E aí eu comecei a me interessar, eu comecei a pedir pra ele ajuda pra aprender e aí eu comecei a aprender. 

E eu tava indo muito bem, porém, eu decidi parar, porque eu tava precisando dar uma ajuda pra ele, porque ele é professor de espanhol, com as aulas. Então, eu tinha que me focar mais no espanhol e também tinha que aprender Libras, a língua brasileira de sinais, por causa do meu projeto de conclusão de curso, que vai envolver esse tema. Meu projeto de graduação na faculdade. Então, por isso eu tive que dar uma pausa no alemão, por enquanto para começar Libras. 

E assim, eu quero muito voltar, mas Libras tem sido completamente magnífico assim, muito interessante também e acho que de todos os idiomas (até) agora, talvez seja o mais interessante, na mecânica assim, na forma que funciona. Enfim, acho que é isso, a minha experiência com idiomas, eu amo muito e eu acho que eu nunca vou parar de aprender, espero nunca parar de aprender.

I have always enjoyed studying languages. One of my goals is to learn as much languages as possible up to an ideal level. I want to be able to speak these languages. Saying that you know a language and speaking it in real life are different things.

I speak Portuguese, which is my mother tongue. I also speak English, Spanish and French and I was learning German. However, I had to take a break of it for now. Now I am learning the Brazilian Sign Language, Libras, which is the language that deaf people use to communicate (here in Brazil).

The first language I learned was English and I don’t really know how to explain how I learned it. I have learned mostly during the course of my life. I mean, we do have English here in schools, but despite that, very few Brazilians speak English fluently… It all started because my father was studying English when I was a child. He always had been a reference for me and seeing him study aroused interest. I learned English mainly by playing games and listening to music.

After a while immersed in the language naturally, I realized I could communicate a lot. It even got to the point where I started teaching English.

The second language I learned was Spanish. Spanish is a language that every Brazilian thinks he knows, but doesn’t. That’s because it is very similar to Portuguese. Funnily enough, that often becomes a problem, because everyone here speaks something called portunhol, which is Spanish mixed with Portuguese, but it’s neither of them.

So Spanish became necessary in my life, become of some parallel projects I had and that’s why I decided to learn it. It was really nice to learn it. I think I still use a lot of Spanish. After English, it is the language I use the most and… I also progressed really quick in Spanish. Now I can understand everything they say, but sometimes when I speak I make some small mistakes. Anyways, I can understand everything, so I consider myself fluent in Spanish.

I learned French because I always found it very beautiful and I had no idea what language to learn. I decided to learn French. Then, I tried to take a French course. And the French course did helped me to get out of the basic level, but I particularly didn’t feel the need to continue with it, because most things I learned in practice, by researching, watching videos and etc.

And… the course gave me a very rigid concept, a very limited concept of what the language is in real life. I think it was useful, but I can say it was useful only to a certain extent. I continued studying on my own, and nowadays I can speak and understand French. My accent is not perfect, though. But I really like the language and I intend to continue learning and delve deeper in it when I get the chance. Unfortunately, it’s not a priority for me at the moment.

There’s also German. I decided to learn German, also because I think it is a very beautiful language. I think it’s wonderful. And also because I was very curious about it. My boyfriend speaks German very well. I was always very curious watching him learning and speaking German. It got me really motivated, I wanted to understand that. I got really interested and started to ask him for help to learn and that’s how I started.

I must say I was doing very well, but I decided to stop. He is a Spanish teacher and I had to help him with his classes. So I decided to focus more on improving my Spanish. After that, I also had to learn Libras, the Brazilian sign language, because of the project I need to do for graduation, which will involve this topic. So I had to take a break from German for the time being to start Libras.

But the truth is that I really want to get back. But Libras has been completely awesome. It’ so interesting! I think that, of all the languages that I’ve learned so far, maybe it’s the most interesting, I mean, in the way it works. It’s fascinating.

Anyway, I think that’s it, my experience with languages, I love languages a lot and I think I will never stop learning. And I hope to never stop learning.
