O outro idioma que eu aprendi foi o italiano. Eu aprendi italiano antes de aprender espanhol e… aprender italiano e espanhol um depois do outro foi uma péssima ideia, porque até hoje eu tenho dificuldade de não misturar os dois. Às vezes eu começo a falar italiano e termino a frase em espanhol e como agora eu trabalho como professor de espanhol, tenho mais contato com pessoas que falam espanhol, eu decidi parar o italiano. Inclusive, porque aqui no Brasil eu não tenho muito uso… não tenho muita oportunidade de usar o italiano. É… por enquanto é um idioma que eu deixei parado e não sei quando vou voltar. Mas, até hoje, quando eu assisto alguma coisa em italiano eu consigo entender tudo que a pessoa está falando.
Depois eu decidi aprender francês. Queria aprender uma língua um pouquinho mais difícil que o espanhol e o italiano. Eu escolhi o francês, porque é uma língua útil. Teria muita oportunidade.. eu teria muita chance de usar ela. Muitos países falam francês. Então, eu achei interessante. Alguns amigos meus queriam aprender francês também, mas eles desistiram depois. E aí eu comecei aprender. Não foi uma língua muito difícil de aprender, porque eu já conhecia outros idiomas parecidos. Como italiano e o espanhol e o português também. Muitas palavras são parecidas com o inglês e a gramática também é muito parecida com o espanhol e com o português e com o italiano.
E pra falar a verdade, eu pessoalmente não gosto muito do francês. É… eu não acho o som do idioma muito bonito. Mas, foi um idioma interessante de aprender e eu conversei com pessoas de muitos continentes e de muitos países e eu acho que foi um dos idiomas com que eu mais usei para conhecer pessoas. Conversei com pessoas do Canadá, da África, da França, então foi um idioma bem interessante de aprender.
Hoje eu consigo entender o francês muito bem e eu acho que o francês é uma língua bem difícil de você aprender a entender. Mas, a pronúncia pra mim ainda é muito difícil. Eu tenho… ainda não consegui perder o sotaque brasileiro no francês
E por último, o alemão. O alemão é meu idioma preferido. De longe é meu idioma preferido. Eu sempre gostei muito do som das palavras do alemão, porque sempre parecia um idioma muito forte. E aqui no Brasil todo mundo acha que aprender alemão é impossível. Então, eu… pra mim foi como um desafio. E eu decidi aprender, porque era um desafio. Todo mundo falava que era impossível, queria aprender um idioma um pouco mais diferente, eu gostava muito do alemão e aí eu decidi aprender
Mas eu nunca achei que o alemão fosse impossível de aprender. Pra mim sempre foi porque as pessoas estavam aprendendo do jeito errado. Ou porque elas não sabiam aprender idiomas, porque eu acho que os idiomas todos eles têm alguma coisa em comum. Todos eles são parecidos. E aí por isso você pode aprender um idioma mais ou menos do jeito. Você pode aprender qualquer idioma mais ou menos do mesmo jeito. E eu sabia que se eu usasse os métodos que eu usei com o francês, com o espanhol e o italiano eu ia conseguir aprender alemão também. E consegui
Hoje eu falo alemão fluentemente, eu entendo noventa por cento, noventa e nove por cento do que eu escuto. Algumas vezes eu entendo tudo que eu escuto e que eu leio também, consigo ler livros em alemão. Inclusive estou com um livro aqui, mas não tô conseguindo terminar porque tá um pouquinho chato.
Eu não falo perfeitamente, eu cometo erros, muitos erros. Ainda tenho muito o que aprender, mas eu gosto muito do idioma e é o idioma que eu estou me dedicando mais e que eu quero aprender mais.

Italian was the next language that I learned. But learning Italian after Spanish was a terrible idea, because until today I have trouble not mixing the two. Sometimes I start to speak Italian and finish the sentence in Spanish.
While it’s okay to learn more than one language at the same time, it’s not recommended to learn more than one from zero simultaneously, especially if they’re similar.
My Italian is a bit rusty, since now I decided to take a break from it. Nowadays, I work as a Spanish teacher and I usually find more Spanish native speakers to talk to. In Brazil, I rarely ever got the opportunity to use Italian. There isn’t much need for it here. I’m quite satisfied with my current level of Italian, but perhaps one day I’ll go back to it to push it to the next level. One interesting thing, though, is that I still can understand everything I listen to in Italian, even though I haven’t studied it for a very long time.
The next language was French. I wanted to learn a language a little more difficult than Spanish and Italian. I chose French because it seemed to be a more useful language, I would have lots of opportunities to use it. After all, there many countries that speak French. A couple friends of mine also wanted to learn French at the time and that motivated me (although in the end I was the only one that didn’t quit).
It wasn’t a really hard language to learn, because I already knew other similar languages. Knowing English also helped me, since they share a bunch of words. That’s not to say that there weren’t challenges, though. Developing listening comprehension in French was a struggle and my pronunciation isn’t still the best up to the present day.
To be honest, I do not like French very much. I do not find the sound of the language to be very pleasing. However, I must say it was an interesting language to learn French helped me speak with people from several continents and from several countries. I believe it was one of the languages that I have used the most to meet foreigners!
I can still understand French quite well, but I still have a strong Brazilian accent. I also stopped studying, because I wanted to focus on German.
German is my favorite language ever. I have always loved the sound of German words. They always sounded so strong… and I think they still do. And here in Brazil people believe that learning German is absolutely impossible. I took it as a personal challenge.
But, I never thought German was impossible to learn. For me t was always because people were learning the wrong way. There’s not such a thing as an impossible language to learn. All languages are similar in a way and therefore you can learn all of them in more or less the same way. It’s just that some will take longer than others and place different challenges. As for me, I knew that if I used the methods that I used with English, French, with Spanish and Italian I would be able to learn German as well.
And I did it.
Today I speak German fluently, I understand ninety percent, ninety-nine percent of what I hear. Sometimes I understand everything I hear and what I read too, I can read books, watch series, watch videos and have conversations all in German.
That’s not to say that I speak perfectly. Far from that: I make mistakes, many mistakes. I still got a lot to learn, but I like the language so much that I’m dedicating myself as much as I can to get it to the highest level possible. It’s now the language I want to learn the most.
