Phase 1: Learn the methods
Welcome! This first phase of your journey is about learning:
- How to memorize phrases with the Lingophant app.
- How to train your listening skills.
- How to book a weekly private lesson.
That’s all this method is about. Practicing, listening, speaking. It’s how humans learn.
The rest of your journey is about routine. Once it becomes normal to do the above, you’ll be feeling comfortable in no time.
Week 1: the Worm (click to expand)
Let’s start Digging
Every week has a different animal, starting with the worm.
This week is about digging: the work of getting new phrases into your long term memory. The video below explains it all. But here is my status with Georgian:
- I have recorded 942 phrases in Georgian, mainly from real people and real situations.
- Of those, currently 82 need practice. The others I know.
- When I tap practice in the app, it selects 12 phrases and I try to remember them correctly.
- The app calculates the ✅ optimal time until I look at them again. I have 70 phrases left to practice
This way, every phrase you learn is guaranteed to enter your long-term memory.
What you need to do to complete this week:
✅ Install the Lingophant App
✅ Register an account inside the app, from the “sharing” tab at the bottom of the app.
✅ Go to the content page of your language and unlock and download the first 4 Basic Phrase Sets there 📲 .
✅ Open the app and memorize those needing ❗️ practice every day.

Come back every day (even if it’s just 5 minutes), have your 🎧 headphones with you, and at the end of the week, you will know ca. 60 useful phrases!

Week 2: the Seastar

Hello again!
This week, you will learn the second weekly practice routine: Listening-Reading Practice.
Practice phrases for your active vocabulary (things you can say perfectly without thinking much), and practice listening for your passive vocabulary and a natural feeling of how the language works.
The two methods combine together perfectly. It’s also how all children learn.
Only natural learning can make you successful with just 30 minutes of work per day. Still, it is the minimum for finding your way in a completely different language system.
We’re on a mission to record humans telling their life’s story. On our language pages or directly in the mobile app (“Discover Content”), you can already start your listening practice in some languages. And with your support at the end, we can add many more languages in the future.
All you need to do to complete this week:
✅ Spend 2 x 30 minute listening with a video from your language page (or in the app).
✅ Add the remaining sets of Basic Phrases from your language page (or directly in the app).
✅ Practice on the app every day (even if it’s just 3 minutes).
Now you know how to practice listening! And you’re building a basic vocabulary.

Week 3: the Mouse

Alright, time for some contact with humans!
Yes, you’re more than ready. I started learning Russian without any preparation and every lesson felt great!
Why? Because every mistake you make becomes something you can practice afterwards.
Over the remaining 10 weeks you’ll go from “I don’t understand anything” to “oh wow, did I just communicate for 30 minutes?“.
It also adapts perfectly to your level and interests, because your teacher records and sends you phrases based on mistakes and what you want to say.
That’s the third secret of our method.
How to work with a teacher:
Below is a link to a platform with affordable teachers. Go ahead and book 5 lessons with a teacher. It’s a bit cheaper and they’ll be happy to try the app.
Your first lesson is just about getting to know them and trying the app to record a few phrases. (And sending them to you afterwards!). Pick any teacher you like, or really ask a friend for a weekly lesson!

All you need to do this week is:
✅ Pick a teacher, book a lesson this week. Get to know each other and try the app.
✅ Practice all phrases available phrases on the app.
✅ Spend some time watching content from your language’s page. That means Listening-Reading or grammar videos for like 30 minutes.
Starting this week, you will have in total 10 practice conversation. With 30 personalized phrases per lesson, you’ll know around 400 phrases by heart. That’s enough for thousands of combinations and enjoying to speak!
Just keep doing it 🙂 Giving up now is the biggest risk that keeps you from success.
